A Day Trip to the Canso Causeway…

From Suncatcher B&B to the Canso Causeway, Hwy # 104

Suncatcher B&B is located about 3 minutes from Exit # 17 on Hwy # 104 on the way to the Canso Causeway, the man-made “entrance” to Cape Breton Island. It is a two-hour drive to the causeway but there is lots of Celtic culture along the way.

It is only a forty-minute drive to Caribou where you can catch the ferry to Prince Edward Island.

Pictou and area has one festival after another during the summer months. The Pictou Lobster Carnival is a popular and delicious event. The Hector Festival celebrates the arrival of the Scottish immigrants on the ship Hector in the 18th century making Nova Scotia the “birthplace of New Scotland”.  Music lovers flock to New Glasgow’s Riverfront Music Jubilee.  New Glasgow also hosts the Festival of the Tartans, a colourful gathering of all things Scottish.  Beach Lane Lavender Farm, River John, has a Lavender Festival guaranteed to please all your senses.

Antigonish, Home of St. Francis Xavier University, also hosts the Highland Games and the Festival Antigonish, one of the top five summer theatres in Canada. Visit St. Ninian’s Cathedral, a provincial heritage site, completed in 1874, to admire the Romanesque architecture, hand-painted frescoes, and fine woodwork.
